Student Council

The Northside Student Council consists of 4th and 5th grade students elected by fellow members of their Houses-Altruismo, Amistad, Isibindi, and Reveur. This group serves as a bridge between the student body, the administration/faculty, and the community. Community outreach projects teach these students how to be good leaders. The council meets monthly under the leadership of Ms. Byrd, ESOL teacher/house leader and Amanda Barksdale, GATE teacher.

In early fall, students in grades 4th and 5th complete an application explaining the traits that would make them a good member of student council. After that, the House leaders choose up to five candidates to run for election. Students campaign, make posters, and give speeches via video during Election Week. Voting occurs the last day of Election Week. The student body chooses one 4th grader and one 5th grader from each of the four houses. There are no set positions (i.e., president, vice president, secretary, etc.)

As a student council members, they complete errands around campus, help facilitate monthly PBIS/House rewards, and run the school Spirit Store. They also help in some of the decision-making tasks for the school. When there are special initiatives, our members take part in communicating it to the whole school via videos, announcements, etc.
